MANILA (UPDATED) – While no offer has yet been made, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo on Tuesday said he is willing to accept the top post at the central bank.
“We have not been offered the job, but if we are offered a job, we will accept it because that will allow us to serve at a higher level of leadership at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP),” he said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel’s Business Nightly.
His 40-year service record speaks for itself, Guinigundo said, and stressed that he has competence, experience, and a vision for the BSP—all virtues if he were to become governor.
In the meantime, the central bank will continue to uphold the three pillars of central banking—price stability, financial stability, and a reliable and efficient system for payments and settlements.
It also remains committed to flexible inflation targeting and does not see the need to tweak the current monetary policy, Guinigundo said.
Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez last week said they will announce the next central bank governor in three or four weeks’ time.
It is still uncertain who will replace Amando Tetangco, who is due to step down in July.
In addition to Guinigundo, deputy governor Nestor Espenilla, and former trade secretary and monetary board member Peter Favila have been floated as Tetangco's possible successors. -
